JUBS Principle

Life is full of difficult problems and the world is hard to understand. Books, guides, articles (including these ones), etc. do their best to explain ways to solve these puzzles and comprehend the inner workings of the universe, but it’s impossible to explain every single logical step of the way.

You often might need to resort to the JUBS principle to resolve these issues, which stands for:

Just, uhh… be smart(er).

JUBS is used when something cannot be outright explained as a series of formalized, conscious, articulable, or mechanical instructions. It is pattern recognition, intuition, a combination of fluid and crystallized intelligence, etc. that is built by IQ and experience.

The name / explanation is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but for good reason. Sometimes, there is no other real option but to utilize JUBS principle to solve a problem. Some concepts do not lend themselves well to verbal explanation and just require more pondering, experience, and building familiarity / muscle memory with the topic. The only advice you can really give is JUBS.

You can read as many step-by-step guides as you want. But you can’t always expect to follow a sequence of rules and succeed. Your intuition, pattern recognition, and wisdom has to be honed as well. Life is full of occasions that don’t reward a one-size-fits-all approach (but a “case by case” mindset).
