Rootless Rationales and Harpless Harpsichords

Once upon a time, in a world far enough removed from our own so not to anger any music historians, there was a village full of vibrant people. One particular inventor was experimenting in his workshop, crafting using pieces of wood and strings. After gluing some wood together, and then stretching and tying the strings to the wood, he found that the device would make sounds when each string was plucked, and could be used to make music. The inventor called his invention a harp. The town loved it, and the stringed instrument and its music became familiar to play and listen to.
